• Propose alternate word choices or phrases to increase communication
competence
Directions:
For each type of troublesome language named below, locate an example of the
troublesome language used in a newspaper, magazine, personal conversation or
experience. Describe the circumstances and people involved in the experience.
Then, describe an alternate word or phrase that could have been used to improve
understanding or prevent damage to the relationship. For examples from newspapers
or magazines, cut out the example and attach it to your typewritten description
and prescription.
